The story of this pair's first encounter proves that the adage “when one door closes another one opens” is true. As a disheartened Aidan had to forgo a trip to Canada his friend Dave dragged him to the infamous Lisdonvarna Matchmaking Festival, the place where the story of Ronan and Aidan begins.
Despite Aidan not having any significant interest in attending, the boys headed down to the Outing Festival run by Eddie McGuiness (who now takes full responsibility for the pair’s union) for one night and one night only. Little did Aidan know that he would catch the eye of a very eligible bachelor from Westmeath that would make him forget all about Canada and entice him to spend yet another night in Lisdonvarna.
They were so smitten with one another from the get-go that they exchanged numbers at breakfast the following morning. But of course, love isn’t that simple, and a dose of bad phone service nearly ruined the brewing connection. Shortly after breakfast Aidan sent a text which was disastrously not received by Ronan. After spending the day wondering where it had all gone wrong, they thankfully crossed paths that evening and cleared up the miscommunication. In fact, as soon as the situation had been clarified, low and behold the “elusive message” finally pinged on Ronan’s phone.
After the weekend the pair became inseparable and after two years of commuting Aidan made the surprise decision to move to Kinnegad and the rest is history.
On July 28, 2023, on the lawn of the Farnham Estate, one of the grooms walked up the aisle to the song “Your All I Need to Get By” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. On a beautiful summer's day, they were announced husband and husband by celebrant Patricia Irwin.
After dinner Ronan and Aidan took to the dance floor to serenade their guests with a first dance to “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper and continued to dance the night away to “More Cowbell” and DJ Pa Shiels. To really top off the night the wedding party was treated to a wonderful fireworks display, which was super exciting. It was, in fact, so exciting it simply had to be followed by day 2 in which the couple booked the clubhouse on the estate and erected a marquee from Cavan Marquees. The newlyweds then enjoyed a more intimate day with a BBQ and spectacular entertainment from Colin Fahy Music and “The Pancakes”.
The couple recall their favourite memory occurring before the nuptials even began when they did a first look and had their photographer Kenneth Baker take some pictures. “We were able to relax and take it all in. We also really enjoyed the ceremony and the party into the wee hours.”

“Our photographer Kenneth Baker was exceptional! We have the most beautiful photos. It's really hard to narrow it down to just one. If we were really pushed, it would have to be the one at the end of the aisle after our ceremony.”
