On June 30, 2021, David took Emily on a trip down from Blarney to Gougane Barra to escape the stress of college work. “As soon as I got there, I was so distracted by the scenery that I didn’t even notice how nervous David was. We walked up to the lake viewpoint, then he called my name and when I turned around, I saw him bending down on his knee with a ring in his hand. His initial proposal was such a shock to Emily that she just kept shouting “no no no” but she really meant yes, so when David asked again she screamed a big fat “Yes.”
In front of 80 close family and friends, Emily and David became man and wife during a beautiful intimate wedding ceremony at The Garryvoe Hotel, overlooking the ocean. Together they had six in their bridal party. Emily’s wonderful dad, Brendan walked his daughter up the aisle to “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri.
There are so many great memories to recall from the day’s events but a few that stand out for Emily are “getting ready with my bridesmaids, the first look with my family, walking with my dad down the aisle, seeing David’s face at the top of the room and the moment we officially became husband and wife.”
Emily’s beautiful wedding dress was the Selene dress by Dando London. Purchased at Cinderella’s Closet in Cork, the dress was a long-sleeved gown with a champagne undertone accentuated by stunning lace detail all around with a sheer back and finished with pearl buttons on the back. “I was unsure at first as I always imagined having an all-white dress but as soon as I tried it on, I knew it was the one and my sister and my maid of honour who were with me on the day strongly encouraged me to pay the deposit there and then.”
Their first dance was “Last Request” from Paolo Nutini. Pictures on the day were captured by Lisa Chonier Photographer. Guests were treated to a wonderful meal and their main course consisted of Turkey and Ham and Vegetable Curry. Emily’s something borrowed was her nanny’s engagement ring (she passed away 15 years ago.) The newlyweds are moving back to Tipperary soon and will renovate Emily’s nanna’s house and make happy memories there of their own.
Emily’s advice to all couples planning for their big day; “All the stresses and worries that you have leading up to the big day just disappear, they were really for nothing; at the end of the day all that truly matters is that you are and your partner are happy. Once you see them standing at the top of the aisle you can truly relax knowing you organised this perfect day to celebrate your love with your family and friends”.
