The Meet

Debbie O’Connor and Sean Duggan first met through mutual friends in 2010 but didn’t become a couple until 2011. They dated for seven years before getting engaged in December 2018.

The Engagement

On Sunday December 2, 2018, Debbie and Sean arrived home as usual. Debbie had planned to chill on the sofa for the evening but wanted to get some housework done first, so asked Sean to go upstairs and get the washing basket. Upon his return he told her to close her eyes, saying that he had a surprise for her. Expecting chocolates or something small, Debbie couldn’t have been more surprised when she opened her eyes to see Sean down on one knee with ‘the most beautiful ring in his hand’. Sean had only had the ring for a few hours and hadn’t planned on proposing so soon but said he couldn’t wait any longer.

The Wedding

Debbie and Sean were married on May 14, 2022, with a beautiful ceremony in St. John’s Cathedral, Limerick. They held their wonderful reception at The Limerick Strand Hotel. Debbie, who stunned in a gorgeous dress from Virginia’s Bridal in Limerick, walked up the aisle to the song ‘From this Moment’ sung by her mother as a surprise and they had Shannon Gospel Choir to set the mood at the ceremony. Their first dance was to ‘Dreams’ by Gabrielle. For the reception they had booked the talented trio Manila Strings, who during the meal went to each table asking guests to pick a song. This had people up singing and dancing - ‘it completely set the mood for the rest of the evening.’ Their lovely wedding invitations set the tone for their big day, provided by McNamara Printers in Shannon and their delicious wedding cake was by Cakes by Deborah. As regards favourite memories they say they ‘absolutely loved the whole day’, and it’s impossible to pick! Debbie’s favourite photo from the day is one of her and Sean looking very happy with their son Noah, just seven months at the time. The one piece of advice they would impart to others with a wedding day approaching is to ‘enjoy it, it goes way too fast…you will be sad it’s over’.

How was your experience with The Strand Hotel?

“We loved our wedding in The Strand. It’s modern, stylish, local and can cater for big or small weddings. We dealt with Keeley and she was absolutely brilliant, nothing was an issue, and she was always so approachable with any questions. On our wedding day we also dealt with Trevor who was an absolute gentleman. We can’t sing their praises enough; they were both brilliant! We would definitely recommend The Strand to any couples who are looking for a local venue. We are still hearing from all our guests how handy it was that the hotel was so near, and it wasn’t an extra expense to have to book a room.” strandhotellimerick.ie
