A romance that began way back in school in 2007 stood the test of time between Rosie Healy Rae and Micheál O’Shea and in 2017, on a trip to New York, Kenmare gentleman Micheál, proposed to Rosie at the top of the Rockefeller Centre.
On October 15, 2021 Roise, daughter of politician, Michael Healy Rae, and Micheál tied the knot at St. Patrick’s Church, Kilgarvan and moved on to Dromquinna Manor in Kenmare for their wedding reception with 100 of their family and friends. After four failed attempts due to a world-wide pandemic, they finally got the day of their dreams and all the suppliers they wanted were able to attend.
Rosie had her dress custom made by Kathy De Stafford (Nenagh and Dublin) and it was exactly what the Kerry woman dreamed of. “I had always wanted a big dress but then I also wanted to be able to dance without a big awkward dress that night. Kathy made me the best dress as I was able to remove the outer skirt and be left with a light A line skirt for the night.”
Their wedding ceremony, officiated by Fr. Liam (cousin of the bride) put them both at ease; “He made the whole experience so enjoyable, he gave a fabulous ceremony and we also had the gospel choir who raised the roof off the church,”
recalls Rosie.
On the way to their ceremony they stopped in Kenmare with their photographer Darren Forde to get a snap at the top of the town. “Everyone came out of their work premises to wish us luck and wave.”
Their dancefloor was full for the night. Local band Truly Diverse made the celebrations super special- “Truly diverse had the floor packed from start to finish, the boys put on the best show; their energy is electric,”
said Rosie.
Rosie imparts some advice to those on their current wedding planning journey:
“Enjoy the build-up; it’s all over so fast and in the current times with a lot of uncertainty just remember you will get your day. We thought we would never get there but you will and it will all be worth it even better. We found people were so excited that we were finally getting married after all the disappointment there was such a buzz in the weeks leading up to it.”
