To ensure you fulfill your duties with grace and etiquette, here are some do’s and don’ts for bridesmaids.

Dos

BE SUPPORTIVE One of the most important roles of a bridesmaid is to be there for the bride emotionally. Listen to her concerns, offer advice when asked, and be a source of support throughout the wedding planning process.

ATTEND PRE-WEDDING EVENTS Be present at all pre-wedding events, such as the bridal shower, bachelorette party, and rehearsal dinner if they have one. These events are important for the bride, and your presence will show your support and love.

HELP WITH WEDDING PLANNING Offer your assistance to the bride with any wedding-related tasks she may need help with. This could include addressing invitations, assembling wedding favors, or helping with DIY projects.

BE PUNCTUAL Arrive on time for all wedding-related events, including dress fittings, hair and makeup appointments, and the wedding ceremony itself. Being punctual shows respect for the bride’s time and ensures everything runs smoothly.

BE A POSITIVE PRESENCE Keep a positive attitude throughout the wedding planning process and on the wedding day itself. Offer words of encouragement and help diffuse any stressful situations that may arise.

ASSIST THE BRIDE ON THE WEDDING DAY On the wedding day, be available to help the bride with any last-minute tasks or emergencies. This could include holding her bouquet, fixing her dress, or ensuring she stays hydrated and calm.

BE PREPARED Bring a small emergency kit with essentials like safety pins, tissues, and stain remover. This will come in handy in case of any wardrobe malfunctions or accidents.

Traditionally, bridesmaids have worn the same dress to create a cohesive and uniform look. This practice dates back to ancient times when bridesmaids were tasked with protecting the bride from evil spirits or potential suitors. By dressing identically, it was believed that the bridesmaids could confuse any ill-intentioned individuals and ensure the bride’s safety. Over time, this tradition evolved into a way to symbolise the unity and support of the bridal party. By wearing the same dress, bridesmaids visually demonstrate their commitment to the bride and her special day. It also helps to create a sense of harmony and balance in the overall wedding aesthetic. However, in recent years, there has been a shift towards more individuality and personal expression in weddings. Many brides are now opting for a more modern approach, allowing their bridesmaids to wear different dresses that suit their individual styles and body types. This change reflects a desire to celebrate the unique personalities and preferences of each bridesmaid, while still maintaining a cohesive look. If you’re considering breaking away from the traditional matching bridesmaid dresses, here are some tips on how to do it:
