One sure way of causing conflict within your newly wedded bliss is a lack of communication. Keep lines of dialogue open and start getting into the habit of talking whenever an issue arises instead of just letting it pass undiscussed. Your first year of marriage is the ideal time to set good habits in terms of honesty, communication and open conversations.

 Don’t lose your separate lives

You may have dedicated your lives to each other now that you’ve said ‘I do’, but that doesn’t mean you have to abandon your past life completely. Ensure you’re still dedicating time to living as an individual. Be this regular lunches with your mom or a regular get together with the girls, you are your partner should still continue living your lives as individuals alongside your marriage. 

Equal workloads

Sharing the load is the best way of ensuring equality and mutual respect are constant forces in your marriage. Whether it’s household responsibilities, finances or any other key aspects of married life, sharing tasks equally and fairly keeps tensions to a minimum and will help avoid conflict. 

Remember your vows

You promised to love one another both in good times and in bad, and whenever tensions rise it is important to remember that this is a part of every marriage. Remember your vows to one another, your promises to care for and love each other no matter what, and remember that these sentiments should prevail over any disagreements. 

Make plenty of time for one another

As your lives get busy, it can be easy to slip out of the routine of making time for each other. The easiest way to avoid this by scheduling regular nights-in, one-on-one days out or even regular dates. Do whatever you can to ensure you and your partner are aware of how appreciated and loved you both are. 

Amp up the romance

Many married couples are guilty of letting the romance and chivalry fade throughout a marriage, but this shouldn’t be the way! The best way of ensuring your marriage is a happy one is maintain the level of romance you made the effort for back when you and your hubby first got together. We know it can be hard to make time for dates and nights-out, but try your best to as this will keep the romance alive. Spontaneous trips and gifts are also an ideal way of keeping that spark ignited.
