Autumn trends for 2023 aren’t departing hugely from what we are seeing this year, but subtle popular decisions can really change the theme and structure of your wedding day. Below we’ve put together 10 trends that you might find helpful when planning your autumnal wedding day. We feel autumn is the most romantic time of the year to get married so count yourself lucky if you are one of those couples. When we think autumn we think fresh air, crisp evenings, nature, deep hues, romantic liaisons and one hell of a party season!
Autumn is the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to deep juicy floral tones. If you want to etch a little drama and lushness into your big day then flowers such as eucalyptus, roses, foxgloves and dried ferns are some to consider. If you want to go a little deeper then red berries, tulips, viburnum and dahlias can infuse more of a rustic feel into your bouquet and floral décor.
Autumn is considered mid-season (Christmas and summer is high season) so you should think about your budget. If it’s not suited to a weekend day, then lash out the weekday card with your venue and see what deals can be had. We understand that it’s a little bit more of an effort from your guests to get the time off, but ultimately those who really want to attend will be there for you, regardless of if it’s a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday.
Cinnamon screams autumn; the lure from its scent transports you automatically into romanticism and fairy-tales so why wouldn’t you want it in every pew and on all tables. The best part of this is that you can create your own candles. Use a generic non-scented candle and decorate it with cinnamon sticks and tie them all together with a piece of twine, it’s a little bit of work but it will be worth it in the end.
You can go crazy or as refined as you want with your autumn wedding cake. If you love the idea of simplicity but would like to infuse a little bit of the season into it then add some dark berries and rustic flowers at the top or around the layers. If you want to go all out then have a Halloween inspired cake created to match your personalities or just top the cake with sugar crafted pumpkins.
Why not exchange your vows under a hand crafted autumnal arch. This season has an eclectic mix of flowers and foliage so either get in touch with your décor company to see what they can do or roll up your DIY sleeves and start creating your very own arch. This can be used in either a church or wedding venue and something that you can keep forever or sell on after your special day.
Don’t overthink your theme for this sea - son. If you stop and look around you, you’ll instantly realise that nature is the way to go with an autumn theme. Use the colours of the falling leaves to inspire your wedding day, choose a colour scheme that falls in line with the season. Although we are all for individuality when it comes to weddings, we also think sticking to burnt oranges and gold hues will create a timeless theme like no other. Deep reds, dark browns and purples are also a big trend for 2023.
It’s not done often, but you could start the trend. Why not serve apple cider (or apple juice) as part of your drinks reception to guests when they arrive at your venue. It will kickstart the party and tie nicely in with the season of coziness and warmth. You could take it a step further and serve a spiced apple cider and add cinnamon on the side to give it that kick.
Would you consider a long sleeve dress? Something dramatic that covers your arms but it’s fancy enough that it stuns on you. There is also the option of finding a dress that you can remove the sleeves or if this isn’t for you then find the perfect wrap or lace jacket that can be removed after your ceremony.
For 2023 carnival themes around the autumn time seem to be trending at the moment. Consider a magician, comedian or circus act. Perhaps, a clown to keep the kids entertained during the dinner might go down a treat. If you wanted to be slightly more sophisticated you could throw in some wine tasting at the drinks reception for the guests, they won’t turn their nose up at that.
Everyone needs a formal invite to your big day. There is certainly a percentage of you going down the route of electronic invites but traditionally we love to receive an invitation in the post. Be consistent with your theme from the very beginning. If you are going with the autumn vibe then stick with foliage, floral, tree illustrations in autumnal shades like green, burnt orange, and plum. The aim is calm, relaxed and sophisticated. Go for it!
