It is NOT necessary (most on this list isn’t) but a lot decide they want to have a cake topper that represents their wedding theme, or personalities, or colour scheme atop their beautiful wedding cake. Think about this one and see what you want to do about it. Aside from the bride, the cake is the most photographed item in any wedding.
Every girl (and guy) needs a nice wedding scent, to add a bit of nostalgia to the day. Spend some time in the run up to your wedding day, choose the right scent to match your energy. Every time you use this scent in the future it will ALWAYS remind you of your wedding day.
Traditionally the best man is assigned the duty (and responsibility) of collecting the wedding cards and gifts off guests but you might not want to burden anyone in your wedding party with this charge so have a think about this well before the big day, ask them if they are comfortable doing so and you’re all sorted well before the wedding day. People often choose wedding boxes also so guests can discreetly drop cards in.
Your dress will be photographed a lot the morning of the wedding as it hangs up on your door or rail, so you do not want a rusty metal hanger in the picture. Make sure you purchase a nice silky hanger or a velvet style one, or a wooden one that you can get personalised to make it even more special. This will appear in the pictures a lot! Make it stand out.
If you have a dog (or cat) then you might need to book them into kennels for the few days around your wedding day. It is not something we immediately think about but by the time your wedding week arrives, and it hits you that there is no one to mind the dog, it will be too late to book them in.
Although it is not a necessity, most couples would gladly feed their wedding vendors on the day- mainly,
the photographer and videographer that are with you for the full day right until the dancing starts. You may also want to invite your wedding celebrant to the full meal also. It is not a huge added cost, but it is a nice humane gesture.
Again, updating your passport is not going to be at the forefront of your mind leading up to your wedding but if you do plan to go on a honeymoon at some point you will need to ensure your passports are in date for all involved. Get this done sooner rather than later as there could be a delay in paperwork or a backlog of passports in their offices.
Do you know in Ireland you have to register your intent to marry 90-days out with the HSE or you will have to appear before a judge in court to prove your wedding isn’t a sham. Get your marriage license in plenty of time so you can relax about the most important part of the whole wedding, the legal bit!
Make sure to have all the phone numbers of all the wedding vendors associated with your wedding day on hand the week of, in case something goes wrong, or you have a questions. Follow up with them all week to make sure you are both on the same timeline and it all works out.
Quiet often when we are giving our final numbers to the hotel, we forget to include the two people actually getting married. Make sure when doing your final count to include yourselves and your wedding party also. It would be a shame for you guys not to be fed!
