As if planning one whole day of celebration wasn't hard enough, it is customary to plan festivities and entertainment for the following day. There are two main arguments for and against organising a party the day after the wedding:
Your family and friends are all in the same place at the same time! We all know how rare it is to gather all your loved ones together so why not make the most of this opportunity and party on together without all the stress of what was yesterday. It can be sometimes said that the day after the wedding is “better craic’ than the actual wedding! People who met at the wedding are still getting to know each other. You have something to look forward to after the hype of your wedding is over, you can unwind and it also means you can spend extra time with your friends and family before everyone goes home.
Expecting your guests to pay for another night out after your wedding is unfair, everyone is tired, and they've forked out on an outfit and present for you already. The bride and groom have already had to organise their wedding and the last thing they want to do is organise and pay for another day out. Both arguments have good points, but organising a party for the day after your wedding does not have to be a strain, simply telling everyone to gather in the local pub the following day can be the best solution to the day after your wedding. Weddings on bank holiday weekends are IDEAL for partying the clay after, as no one is in a rush back to work. Having said that, there are loads of ideas out there to suit all your guest’s schedules and budgets. The most important thing to remember when planning a do for the day after- keep it casual!
- Organise a lunch or a brunch for the bridal party, family etc. perfect for small weddings
- Refreshments or canape reception in a hotel
- Have a barbecue at your own home or a your parent’s house
- A karaoke night is a sure way to give everyone a great laugh and means no one can be shy for too long!
- Gather everyone together in the local and order McDonalds or the local chipper for everyone.
- Organise traditional music/a band/DJ for your local pub
- If you're having a destination wedding, organise a BBQ or picnic on the beach the next day, bring coolers for beer and a volleyball net etc. for a bit of fun! It would also be nice to have a bonfire at the end of the day!
